Scleral lenses are large-diameter, customized, hard contact lenses. These vault over the cornea and sit on the sclera, the white region of the eye. Since these lenses do not rest on the cornea, a tear and saline chamber forms between the lens and the cornea. This space permits sufficient oxygen to reach the eyes while also keeping the eyes moist.
